Service Group 4: DC Distribution

Does your boat’s wiring look like a rat’s nest? We can help you untangle the mess left by unprofessional contractors or DIY boat owners.  Choose this service group if you would like to replace or make changes to your main distribution panel, re-wire all or a portion of your boat’s DC electrical distribution system, or add new DC equipment such as refrigeration, lights, fans, and outlets.

Price range: $360.00 through $1,080.00

Many boaters make undocumented changes to their electrical system during ownership resulting in messy and difficult to understand distribution wiring. Electrical problems are the number one cause of boat fires and improperly sized or corroded wires cause resistance, which in turn creates heat and ultimately fire.

Choose this service group for any of the following reasons:

    • You are experiencing common symptoms of corrosion such as flickering lights, tripping breakers, system faults and low voltage alarms.
    • You would like to add additional equipment to your current distribution system.
    • You would like your current system professionally diagramed.
    • You would like to completely replace your boat’s DC distribution panel and wiring.

 

This service group includes the following design components:

    • Main panel feed wires, disconnect switches, meters, and circuits.
    • Subpanel circuits and related branch wiring.
    • A custom labeling system for breakers and branch wiring.
    • Sizing of wire, overcurrent protection and terminal connections for circuits per ABYC guidelines

  • If you have an issue with your DC distribution wiring or aren’t sure what service level to choose, we recommend starting with Service Level 1: Design Consultation.  During the proposal review meeting, we will review your situation and offer guidance on the best way to take advantage of our services.
  • If you would like professional planning and recommendations for additions to your DC distribution or a new DC distribution system along with a custom wiring diagram and equipment list, choose Service Level 2: Design and Diagrams.
  • If you want us to complete a custom design, wiring diagram, equipment list, and a detailed bill of materials listing exact quantities of wire, connectors, conduits, and enclosures, select Level 3: Design Build Installation.
