Custom Lithium Battery Bank

Description

We will engineer a bespoke lithium battery bank utilizing preferred LiFePO4 cells & battery management systems to ensure optimal space efficiency and performance on the open water.  By building your own battery, you will have the flexibility to customize its size, capacity, and configuration to perfectly match your specific needs.

We can have complete control over the quality of the components used, ensuring a higher standard that may not be guaranteed with some pre-assembled drop-in options. Building your own marine lithium battery can also be a valuable learning experience, deepening your understanding of battery technology and your boat’s electrical system, which can come in handy for maintenance and troubleshooting in the future.

With a sound understanding of your battery’s construction, you can quickly and effectively carry out any necessary repairs or replacements, minimizing downtime so you can maximize your time in paradise.

We will eliminate the guesswork of the design process and ensure that your do-it-yourself build is ready for the rigors of the marine environment. You can implement specific safety features and protocols that are customized to your marine setup, ensuring maximum safety for both your vessel and the battery system.

To get started we will ask you to provide the following information:

• Overall dimensions of your existing battery storage compartment.
• An estimate of your daily power consumption at anchor and underway.
• All existing charging sources installed on the vessel.
• A list of all high amp draw DC motors installed on the boat (bow thrusters, windlass, winches)

We will use then use the provided information to create an optimal battery bank using quality lithium cells and battery management systems to match your requirements.  We will design a custom battery box to ensure that the batteries are installed correctly and per ABYC standards.

You will receive the following deliverables:

• A layout diagram of the battery enclosure with cell arrangement with actual dimensions and construction materials noted.
• A wiring diagram overlayed on the layout drawing depicting the actual wiring for all connections for the batteries and their BMS. The wiring diagram will also include overcurrent protection, shut-off switches, and wiring to the main power bus bars.
• An equipment list with buy links for all materials needed to build the battery, enclosure, and electrical connections up to the bus bars.
• Learning resources and tools list.

*This design package does not include any changes to the existing charging system such as alternators, inverter chargers, or solar/wind chargers.  We would be happy to help you with recommendations if necessary.  Please choose an add-on service group if you would like help with your charging system.
