Service Group 6: AC Distribution

Choose this service group if you would like to replace or make changes to your main AC distribution panel, re-wire all or a portion of your boat’s AC electrical distribution system, or add new AC equipment such as air conditioners, induction cooktops, and additional outlets.

Price range: $300.00 through $900.00

With better inverters and lithium batteries more widely available, many boat owners wish to power heavy-load equipment such as air conditioners and induction cooktops with the batteries.  This is not as straightforward as you may think, and it will require significant changes to how AC power is distributed aboard your boat.  Many older boats will not have existing AC circuits to accommodate this additional high-power equipment and will require more outlets installed throughout the cabin.

Choose this service group for any of the following reasons:

    • You would like to completely replace your boat’s AC distribution panel and wiring.
    • You would like to add additional equipment to your current distribution system.
    • You would like your current AC distribution system professionally diagramed.
    • You are experiencing common symptoms of corrosion, such as tripping breakers, system faults, and low voltage alarms.

 

This service group includes the following design components:

    • Main panel feed wires, disconnect switches, meters, and circuits.
    • Subpanel circuits and related branch wiring.
    • A custom labeling system for breakers and branch wiring.
    • Sizing of wire, overcurrent protection, and terminal connections for circuits per ABYC guidelines

  • If you would like professional planning and recommendations for additions to your AC distribution or a new AC distribution system along with a custom wiring diagram and equipment list, choose Service Level 2: Design and Diagrams.
  • If you want us to complete a custom design, wiring diagram, equipment list, and a detailed bill of materials listing exact quantities of wire, connectors, conduits, and enclosures, select Level 3: Design Build Installation.
