Service Group 1: DC Storage & Control

This service group lays the groundwork for a solid electrical system.  It includes the battery bank and all of its main connections.  If you are not happy with the performance of your current batteries, we can help you identify possible causes and provide solutions.  If you are looking to upgrade or completely rewire your boat, we recommend starting here.  All of our designs adhere to the ABYC guidelines for marine use.

The battery bank is the heart of the DC system aboard your boat, its size determines what equipment you can run and how long you can sustain it.  Batteries are expensive and you could find yourself replacing them earlier than expected if your bank is sized or wired incorrectly.  We can help you protect your investment and lay the groundwork for a safe, effective, and efficient electrical system.

We will design either a 12 or 24-volt battery bank or a dual-voltage system based on your preference.  We will help you to determine the best configuration for your boat, taking into consideration the space you have available, and the amount of amp-hour capacity that you need.  We can provide valuable insights on typical usage and charging scenarios based on our professional knowledge & practical experience of living onboard full-time.

The design components in this service group include:

    • The battery bank and its configuration (parallel, series, both).
    • Battery management systems (BMS), monitors, and shunts.  These will allow you to monitor, protect and control your batteries.
    • We will also plan and layout the direct connections to the battery bank such as the main positive and negative bus bars, bilge pumps, blowers, alarms, inverters, chargers, and battery protection modules.
    • Our design will include wire run lengths and sizes, overcurrent protection, disconnect switches, mountings, and enclosures per the ABYC guidelines

How to choose a service level:

    • If you have an issue with your current batteries or aren’t sure what service level to choose, we recommend starting with Service Level 1: Design Consultation.  During the proposal review meeting, we will review your situation and offer guidance on the best way to take advantage of our services.
    • If you want to make significant changes to your current setup and would like professional recommendations along with a custom wiring diagram and equipment list for the new system design, choose Service Level 2: Design and Diagrams.
    • If you want us to complete a custom design, wiring diagram, equipment list, and a detailed bill of materials listing exact quantities of equipment and new components, select Level 3: Design Build Installation.

You can choose to upgrade to any of the service levels or select from our additional services from our add-on service offerings.
